What is the UK Standard Visitor Visa?

The UK Standard Visitor Visa — also commonly called the UK Visitor Visa or UK Tourist Visa — allows Nigerian citizens to visit the United Kingdom for up to 6 months per visit. It covers tourism, visiting family or friends, business meetings, short-term study (up to 30 days), and attending events.

Unlike an eVisa, the UK visa is stamped directly into your passport after a biometrics appointment. Nigerian passport holders must apply online and attend a biometrics appointment at a TLScontact centre in Lagos before a decision is made.

UK Visitor Visa Requirements for Nigerians (2026)

UK Visa Processing Time from Nigeria (2026)

Standard processing takes approximately 3 weeks (15 working days) from your biometrics appointment at TLScontact. You can apply up to 3 months before your travel date; applying at least 4–6 weeks in advance is recommended.

Priority service and Super Priority service may be available for an additional fee.

UK Visa Approval Rate for Nigerians

The UK visitor visa grant rate for Nigerians is approximately 63%. Common refusal reasons include weak financial evidence, insufficient proof of ties to Nigeria, and incomplete documentation. Refused2Approved’s preparation process is designed to address these risk areas and maximise approval chances.

What You Can Do on a UK Visitor Visa

You cannot work, claim public funds, or stay beyond 6 months on a Standard Visitor Visa.

Long-Term UK Visitor Visas

Frequent travellers can apply for long-term visitor visas valid for 2, 5, or 10 years. Each visit remains limited to 6 months. Long-term visas require stronger financial evidence but eliminate the need to reapply for every trip.

How Refused2Approved Helps with Your UK Visa

We handle the full preparation — online form completion, document checklist, bank statement guidance, cover letter writing, itinerary preparation, and biometrics appointment scheduling. We also provide refusal recovery for applicants who have previously been refused.

Yes. Nigerian passport holders must obtain a UK Standard Visitor Visa before travelling to the United Kingdom. There is no visa-on-arrival option. You must apply online and attend a biometrics appointment before your visa is issued.

No. You do not need a paid flight ticket to apply. A travel itinerary (accommodation details and planned dates) is sufficient. Refused2Approved provides this itinerary as part of our service. Once your visa is approved, we book the actual flight at the best available fare.

Nigeria is on the UK’s list of countries where tuberculosis (TB) screening is required. Before your visa can be processed, you must visit a UK-approved clinic in Nigeria for a chest X-ray and receive a TB test certificate. The cost is approximately ₦50,000–₦70,000. We can direct you to approved clinics in Lagos and Abuja.

You can stay in the UK for up to 6 months per visit on a Standard Visitor Visa. Overstaying your visa can result in deportation, fines, and difficulty obtaining future UK or other visas. Always plan your return within the visa validity period.

No. The UK Standard Visitor Visa does not permit any form of paid or unpaid work, including freelance work for clients outside the UK. Working on a visitor visa is a serious immigration breach. If you intend to work in the UK, a Skilled Worker Visa is required.

Yes. We specialise in refusal recovery. A refusal does not permanently bar you from reapplying, but you must address the specific concerns raised in your refusal letter. We analyse your previous application, identify the weaknesses, and prepare a significantly stronger reapplication with proper supporting documentation.
